I have done two sessions of my new chemo so far. Yesterday I went in for my routine weekly blood test for those weeks that I do not do chemo. I got a call at 9:30 at night from my nurse saying my platelets were dangerously low. They are 22 when they need to be between 100-400. So she warned me to not put myself into any situation where I might cut myself or fall. So no contact sports no shaving etc. if I were to bleed at this point it might not stop. That's pretty scary. I haven't really been scared too much in any part of this journey. I just take the news and move on with it, but this really has kind of freaked me out. Especially since the nurse called so late at night. It must be important.
Now I have to have blood drawn everyday until my platelets go up. If they do not go up in the next few days, I will have to have a blood transfusion. Not a huge deal, but I'd rather not do it because that would mean missing more work, not something I want to do.
So here's hoping those platelets go up!
