Mom and dad have come over and cleaned out the space for the laundry room since I am on bed/couch rest. The walls are the same blue as the new upstairs bath. In this picture dad is spreading some leveling compound before placing the Gladiator garage tiles on the floor. Here is a view under the stairs. Mom painted all under the stairs and even laid tile under the stairs as well. This is a good spot to store our folding chairs and tables. We had to buy a new dryer because the old one is gas and we did not want to have to move the gas line. So we bought this "new" Whirlpool Duet dryer. The delivery guys had a little difficulty getting it down the stairs. I just love the flooring. And all of it is reused from old jobs which is a bonus. Free for us and it doesn't go into a landfill!!! I think Nicole Curtis would be proud! We will be putting in a door as well. This is the opening. It is going to be a little tricky because it is on an angle and it is a salvage door. We really need to have the laundry blocked off so the cats can't get in there. One of them tends to pee inappropriately. However, since I have been pregnant and my husband has to scoop the litter there have not been any incidents. Maybe his new job??? Ha ha, right.

My mom came over yesterday and we cleared out the mess in our future laundry room. We even got as far as doing some painting. We had boxes and boxes of miscellaneous plumbing and electrical supplies. I had my brother come over and tell us what we could get rid of, just so there was less junk all over. This picture shows the wall that will have the washer (on the left) and dryer (on the right). This is a shot of the stair side in the laundry room. It is all painted blue. Mom had painted it green to begin with, but neither of us really liked it, so I painted it over with the same blue we used in the upstairs bathroom. It is nice and bright. Here is another shot, which shows the electrical box. I will paint these walls blue as well. And soon we will get a wardrobe down there and a few dressers. The cat litter boxes will go in the craft area. The family side of the basement is officially finished, well except for some type of window covering. I have some unique ideas, but it requires a trip to Ikea. That may not happen until July or so. Please ignore all of the clutter, but since the bathrooms are not completed yet, there is bathroom stuff all over the house including down here. I love the bookshelves that we purchased, although looks like we may need another set for my hubby's DVDs and books, we need some space for the boys' toys etc. We did have all of the baby stuff on the front porch, but moved it to the basement for the yard sale I had last week. We actually sold a lot of the big things that needed to go to make space for the kids, which means a lot of these items downstairs will go back to the porch once the porch gets a nice thorough cleaning. Plus a lot of these things are clothes, which will go in the boys dresser, once that arrives. Or into storage until they grow into them. Notice we even have booster seats for when they are older. I have to thank a lot of friends who have given us stuff. The game wall. These shelves are filled with board games, D & D books, and DVDs. It is hard to see the floor, but it is Gladiator Garage Flooring system. My dad installs the systems, and someone tore out the "old" floor so they could have the newest floor. Well, my dad took all the old stuff and we installed it in our basement. It just needed a little scrubbing on a few of the tiles. I love the look and is cleaner as well. All of the bookshelves have been securely attached to the walls so any climbing children will not pull them down on top of them. The ceilings are not finished with anything and we don't plan on doing anything with them either. I am just saying it is an industrial look. I am extremely happy with how quickly the tile has gone up. It looks great and I am just loving the black accent tile we chose. The picture to the left shows the end of the tub and I couldn't even get the top of the shower because our ceilings are so tall. The tub is not really blue, in case you were wondering, it is just the protective coating. Things may not move along as quickly tomorrow because he will be working on all of the cuts for the shower cubbies and the toilet nook as well. I am excited to see his work He as really done a nice job getting the look I want for this classic bungalow bathroom. While the construction crew was working on the bathroom, I went to work on the boys' room changing my pink dots to blue and adding some green dots as well. This is an "in progress" picture. Once the room is cleared out of the bed and all of the bathroom things, we can get a crib up and really have a room for our boys. Well the bathroom is SLOWLY taking shape. They ripped out May 31 and it is now June 24. So much for 9 days. Although I knew when they told me nine days that would not happen, especially if they did it right. So far they have one coat of the blue on the walls, plus the Red Guard on the walls of the shower. The demo guys threw away the hardware for the linen closet so I am a bit irritated by that. I just want this to be done soon so we can clean the house before the boys arrive. Looking west. I have to show pictures before, during and after! Today we tried to clean up as much of the drywall dust as possible, which meant mopping (ugh). My husband went out and bought a new mop and did all of the mopping himself, and it looked pretty good. I think he has worked himself into a new job! We primed most of the new drywall hung in the basement. I love it because it dries rather quickly so we could get a first coat of paint on today as well. We did get our first coat of the red on today and it looks pretty good, but it definitely needs another two coats or so. We are still trying to decide on a final color for the bathroom and hallways. We are leaning toward a light gray for the halls and possibly a light green or blue for the bathroom. Making color decisions is so difficult for me! I do have to include another shot of the ever progressing bathroom tile! I love coming home each night and seeing more and more done (and I didn't do any of it). I finished up the 2x2 foot plywood "tiles" on the west wall. I still need to trim out the top edge, but I am going to wait until the drywall is finished to add the last row of plywood tiles and the top trim. I filled the nail holes and then sanded everything down. John will have to do the polyurethane while I am out this weekend. The smell is just too much for me and the babies. Our plumber will be over to finish up his stuff on Sunday (at least for this stage of course), then John can finish the ceiling we have put in. Then the drywallers will be over next week to get that done! Yay!! And hopefully in two weeks we will be ready for tile to be put down! Hopefully once the drywall is up and finished, dad will be feeling better and can come over and frame out our doors. Needing another coat. So after several weeks of my phone being out of service, I am ready to share some new pictures of what is happening in the basement. I am on spring break this week and I am hoping to get as much accomplished as I possibly can. I stored away all the games and DVDs into storage so they do not get all dusty from any drywall that will hopefully be installed SOON!! And since I put all that stuff away, I figured I should paint the wall to math the other half of the basement. So I did. Then I realized I wanted the shelves down there to be black, so I painted the two sets that were already down there. Actually I accomplished a lot today. Tomorrow's plan is to put the final coat on the wall and start putting the plywood squares up on the west wall of the basement. John may have to put the poly on though. My brother running wire. I posted this once and apparently nothing showed up. Really odd. So my brother came over and ran a lot of the wire for the bathroom portion of this project. Yay! In doing this work he decided we needed to add a dropped ceiling in now in order for him to put some overhead lights in. So that is on tap for next Saturday. We also purchased the lights and cut holes for wire to put up lights in the other half of the basement as well. This week I am calling the drywall guy. We decided that paying someone to hang and finish the drywall is totally worth the expense. Plus we are going to have to have someone come and do the tile floor for us because my brother has gone to working nights so he can't help us with that. And we found out that I am pregnant, with TWINS! So things need to move along QUICKLY!!!! We still need to gut and finish the upstairs bathroom as well. All before the babies arrive!! Once they get here, all things, house will need to be put on hold for a while. The view going up! We put up beadboard plywood in the stairwell to the basement, with the help of my dad. It used to be all open and we added vertical beadboard to the bottom section. And then I messed up with the measurements, so we added the beadboard going horizontal to the upper part. You can see what I mean from the picture. I actually love the horizontal and vertical together. We trimmed it out as well. There are just two more pieces that need to be added. That was another trip to Lowe's. I am so excited. It adds so much to that area. It looks like you are walking toward a real living space, not just an unfinished basement. I am still debating on what color to paint the beadboard. I love the navy blue we have used throughout the basement, but my mom thinks it is too dark. I am not sure. I am going to wait until the drywall is up in the other areas before I do any painting. So there is a little time to decide. You can still see all the sawdust on the stairs, and I am waiting to clean that mess, because our plumber was over yesterday as well! Yay! He roughed in as much as he could then we went shopping for the rest of what he would need. Holy cow is copper expensive! |

This blog started as me just writing about the rehabbing of my home. However, life changed dramatically in the last year so I have changed the topic to dealing with these trials and tribulations instead. Hopefully I will beat this cancer and then get back to my life as a mom, wife and teacher. Archives
