Today I had my second treatment of the Doxil. Last time it made me extremely tired and a little nauseous for a few days after. So far I seem to be doing okay.
I didn't blog after my first round of this particular kind of chemo because I got more unpleasant news and I just couldn't bear to put it in writing and well it is a bit uncomfortable to really share, because well, it is kind of gross. But now that I know all is well, I'll share.
So here is the warning; men and boys may not want to continue reading because I will be discussing some lady parts because let's face it, I have Ovarian cancer. I know ovaries are not as pretty as boobs, but that is what I have so here it goes.
Before I receive treatment I have a delightful gyno exam. Not a PAP smear (yay!), but the other stuff-all the other probing that happens. Well usually he is in and out rather quickly and things had been feeling great for the last year actually. However, last month he felt a mass...in my butt. I knew something was wrong because he spent more time there than usual which is terrible anyway, but then I also knew something was wrong. When he told me he felt a mass I immediately burst into tears. But then in complete seriousness, he says, "It could be nothing, just a very hard turd. Don't be too upset. I just want to be sure that I am the one to check you out next time and make sure it is gone." At that remark I about snort because my very serious doctor just said "hard turd." (And that is why I teach 5th grade by the way) So luckily over the last month I apparently took care of that "turd" and it is no longer pretending to be a cancer in my butt.
Here's hoping the effects of the second round of Doxil are not bad. I am supposed to stay out of the midday sun. That is so hard to do when I live so close to the beach, but I will do so. Plus I am not supposed to drink from a straw for several days after to avoid mouth sores (ew I love straws!). And let's just hope it stops dropping my blood counts! It makes me exhausted!!! I don't have time for that!
Please say a prayer tonight for all those suffering from this crap illness especially my good friend who will be going through a pretty serious surgery tomorrow because of this horrible disease.
